SIGMA NU RECRUITMENT

Trying to express all the reasons why joining the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta is so great is not an easy task. Since the first six men founded the fraternity, many prominent CEOs, famous actors, astronauts, Nobel Prize winners, Hall of Fame baseball, basketball, golf, and football players, Governors, Senators, Vice Presidents and even a President of the United States have become members in this great fraternity. Clearly there is something special about this fraternity that has helped so many men become so successful.

Leadership Opportunities

This fraternity is a great experience in many ways, but one of the most often overlooked ways is the opportunity to lead. The fraternity has a five person cabinet and several committees which need to be filled every other semester. If you are the kind of person that wants to get things done on this campus there are few better ways than taking a leadership position in a fraternity. Leaders in this fraternity are supported by their predecessors and by the fraternity as a whole and really achieve and learn a lot every year. Future employers really value the experience you get from taking a leadership role in a fraternity. However, if you are worried that this sounds like too much work do not worry. Although we encourage every member to get the most out of the fraternity experience as they can, you can choose to be as active as you want in this fraternity. Not every brother has the time to take on huge responsibilities, but every brother does his best.

Lifelong Friendships

If you have met any of the brothers in this fraternity then you know how close we all are. The fraternity experience is designed to bring people together in a way you could never attain in any other situation. All of us have great friendships outside the fraternity, but we all feel that the friendships created in the fraternity compliment those friendships making all of our college experiences much better. The best examples I can share about the lifelong friendships involve the men I’ve met that graduated twenty or thirty years ago and still contact their pledge classes on a regular basis. It is a guarantee that you will make great friends in this fraternity.

Academics

Odds are academics is not one of the main reasons you are thinking about joining a fraternity, but it should be. Scholarship is the top priority for the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta. This is shown from the very beginning, when every pledge is given $250 for having a GPA above 3.0 in their pledging semester. After pledging it continues to be the top priority of the fraternity, after all it is ultimately why we are at college. Under the leadership of the scholarship chair brothers help each other in classes they have already taken as well as classes they are currently taking. It is very important to remember that academics is the top priority of the fraternity and for everyone.

Not For College Days Alone

One of the things that separates the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta apart from all the others is the statement “Not for College Days Alone.” Joining this fraternity is truly a lifelong commitment and a lifelong of benefits. Brothers continue to remain active in many ways after graduation. They can join one of the many graduate chapters, attend annual dinners held at every chapter, or attend one of the annual fraternity wide meetings held at different locations across the United States. It may be too early for you to think about how this fraternity will help you after graduation, but more immediately you can think of the great support these graduate brothers provide. Graduate brothers generously provide advice on getting jobs, advice on running the fraternity, and financial support. The fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta does a great job living up to the statement “Not For College Days Alone” and the benefits of that are great.

The Real Deal

The main concerns you probably have about joining a fraternity are the parties and getting girls. If these aren’t your priorities you're ahead of the game, but most likely they are. There’s nothing wrong with thinking like that everyone does, and don’t worry we have great parties with great girls, but joining this fraternity is a life long commitment and you should prepare for all the aspects of your decision. I hope you read the previous sections and really took them to heart. All the brothers have different reasons why this fraternity means so much to them, but I believe it’s because of the memories it creates. This fraternity will bring you all the things I said above (leadership opportunities, lifelong friendships, an academic advantage, and post college support) but most importantly it will bring you great memories for the rest of your life. Good Luck.

Tips on the Rush Process:

1) Enjoy Rush

The decision to join a fraternity is a lifetime commitment. Millions of men

have gone through rush and have benefited from the advantages of

fraternity life. Although this sounds like a stressful time, it isn't. Make

sure to have fun with rush. You will meet a lot of great guys from many

different fraternities who want to do the same thing as you do--meet new

people!!

2) Set Your Own Goals

Decide for yourself what you want out of a fraternity. Why are you

rushing? Do you want a chance to be a leader? Do you want to establish

a network of connections to be used once you graduate? Maybe you just

want to meet new friends, or perhaps you want to join a fraternity just to

enhance your college years? The best way to find a fraternity to suit your

needs is to find out what you want from the fraternity.

3) Explore Your Options

Once you have set your goals, you need to explore your options. Make

sure to visit as many houses as you can. By looking at all of the different

chapters, you can get a better idea of what you want. Think of it as

buying a car. First, you'd test drive at least four or five different cars

before you started to...

4) Narrow Down Your Options

After carefully comparing your favorite cars, you'd finally make an

educated decision as to which one you really want. The same goes for

rushing a house. Once you have visited as many houses as you can,

eliminate the ones you don't want, and go back and carefully inspect the

ones you do want.

5) Spend Time Getting to Know the Brothers

Once you have decided which houses you want, spend as much time

with them as you can. Try to meet a majority (if not all) of the brothers in

a house, and go to as many of their events as you can. This gives the

brothers of the chapter ample time to get to know you, and also shows

them that you are truly serious about wanting to be a part of their

brotherhood.

6) Learn from Rush

If you decide not to join a fraternity, then at least get as much out of rush

as possible. Ask questions about Professors you have, or classes you

want to take. Have fun during rush. And last but not least, meet new

friends that you wouldn't normally get a chance to meet.
